Bergamo is an Italian city northeast of Milan, in the Lombardy region. Its one of the most scenic cities in Italy, it is located on and around a steep hill, green in the summer and white in the winter, complemented by pastel coloured architecture, against the backdrop of nearby Alps.
Its older upper district, called Città Alta, is characterized by cobblestone streets, breathtaking views, encircled by Venetian walls (nominated to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and accessible by funicular.
Looking at its beauty, it is hard to believe Bergamo is also one of Italy's most industrialized cities, from which it derives its relative wealth.
Truly unique, Bergamo is also known as Italian masterpiece and tourist paradise - the city of artistic treasure and medieval charm.
